Mayor Mayer Mizrachi has launched the “Homeless People Care Network” programme to find lasting solutions for people living on the streets. All relevant organisations are invited to participate in the programme.
Lizbeth Cunningham, Director of Social Management for the Mayor’s Office of Panama, stressed the importance of addressing this challenge jointly. “We must work in collaboration with all the institutions involved. We need to join forces and seek solutions from all sectors,” said Cunningham.
The program has generated significant interest, with 15 organizations already committed to working with the Mayor’s Office. Cunningham stressed the need to support these organizations with adequate resources to enable them to do their work.
The “Network for Assistance to Homeless People” seeks to establish a comprehensive strategy that covers health, education, employment, technical training, environmental protection and urban clean-up. “This situation is a State problem that requires the active participation of the entire society,” said Cunningham.
According to the latest Population and Housing Census, 374 people identified themselves as “homeless” in Panama City. Cunningham invited all interested companies and organizations to join this effort: “We invite all interested parties to contact the Mayor’s Office and join this initiative. Together, we can be part of the solution.”
With this collaborative network, the Mayor’s Office of Panama is positioned as a pioneer in the search for inclusive and effective solutions to improve the quality of life of those who need it most in the city.
