Panama becomes the first country in Latin America to perform robotic surgery in a public health facility

The Social Security Fund (CSS) performed the first robotic surgery within a public health facility, this Thursday, October 20, in which doctors from the institution carried out a gynecological procedure for uterine removal.

Dr. Miguel Cáceres, national deputy director of Technology and Health Safety, and coordinator of the Robotic Surgery Program of the CSS, indicated that this procedure sets a precedent in Panama and Latin America, because it has enormous meaning from the point of view of health equity, because this technological procedure generates great benefits for the patient, it is less invasive, the recovery is faster, and now it will be available to the insured.

The procedure with the Hugo RAS system allows an improvement in terms of patient prediction, specifically in blood loss, which is a key part of recovery.

For her part, the Minister Counselor for Health Affairs, Dr. Eyra Ruiz, highlighted this advance that puts Panama at the forefront in terms of surgical technology and patient care, being the first country to have a second-generation robotic equipment. in a public health facility.
