Panama and Spain sign an agreement to increase access and quality of water in the Ngäbe Buglé region

A non-reimbursable Cooperation Agreement for the development of the Drinking Water and Rural and Indigenous Sanitation Program of Panama was signed by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) on behalf of the National Government and the Official Credit Institute (ICO), on behalf of the Spanish Cooperation Fund for Water and Sanitation (FCAS) of the Government of Spain.

The plan is executed by the Ministry of Health of Panama through the Directorate of the Potable Water and Sanitary Sewerage Subsector/DISAPAS.

This program entails an emphasis on local management, (Bilateral Program-PAN-009-B), attached to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

The total budget of the Bilateral Program is $13,773,122.60 million, $6.88 million from the Cooperation Fund for Water and Sanitation (FCAS), and $6.88 million from the local counterpart (Government of Panama).

The objective of the Bilateral Program is to increase access and the quality of the provision of drinking water and sanitation services in rural and indigenous areas in the Ngäbe-Buglé region.

The Minsa stressed that this project will benefit more than 5,924 inhabitants of the districts of Kankintú and Muná in the Ngäbe-Buglé Comarca.

The financing agreement has a completion date of December 19, 2023.
