PAN members demand distribution of seats in Mexico City

Andrés Atayde, president of the PAN CDMX, pointed out to the Electoral Tribunal of Mexico City (TECDMX) that it approved the delivery to Morena and its allies of 65% of the spaces in the capital’s Congress, when they obtained 45% of the vote.

“It is a betrayal of what the people of Mexico City voted for. We will obviously go to the next stage,” he posted on his X account.

According to the election results and the current rules for the allocation of proportional representation seats, the Morena-PT-PVEM coalition should go from 48.58% to 57.58% in the local legislature, and not the 65.15% percentage it currently has, the leader of the capital’s PAN indicated in a statement.

“It is not about asking for spaces that do not correspond to us by law, but about guaranteeing citizens a fair representation and a plurality in the integration of the legislative powers that is as faithful as possible to what was voted on June 2.

“We will not accept a representation less than that which the citizens gave us through their vote. We will fight to the bitter end, because we believe that not doing so is betraying the trust of the chilangos who gave us their vote,” Atayde said in the statement.

Marko Cortés, the national leader of the PAN, accused Morena of being overrepresented and warned that they will challenge the decision before the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF).

The local Electoral Court endorsed the agreement with which the Electoral Institute of Mexico City granted more plurinominal deputies to Morena, with a last-minute decision in which legislators who won for the cherry party decided to change the parliamentary group of the PT and PVEM to allow Morena to add more legislators by proportional representation.

The TECDMX rejected 18 challenges filed by opposition parties and legislators.
