The national leader of the PAN, Jorge Romero, justified that the military actions of the United States in Venezuela “are the result of a regime that abandoned democracy.” Without referring to the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, as well as their transfer under arrest to New York, the PAN leadership condemned the “systematic repression and political persecution exercised by the Maduro regime.” Without any assessment of the actions of Donald Trump’s government, he called for a “peaceful and democratic transition” in the South American country.
