“In National Action we consider that the decision, endorsed by a split vote of seven councilors who voted in favor and four against, contradicts the principles of equity and fair representation that should govern our democratic system. The overrepresentation of a party or coalition creates a fictitious majority and not only alters the political balance, but also undermines the citizens’ trust in the law and institutions,” said the PAN leader.
National Action announced that this Sunday it will challenge the INE’s decision before the Electoral Tribunal so that the magistrates can analyze and resolve the allocation of 108 seats in the Chamber of Deputies to Morena, PT and PVEM, since those parties would have the qualified majority in San Lázaro to approve any constitutional reform.
“It is essential that the Court acts with complete impartiality and transparency, ensuring that the vote of all Mexicans counts equally for the allocation of proportional representation deputies of all parties,” said Marko Cortés.
In addition, the PAN member called on opposition parties to join this week in demanding a Legislative Branch “integrated in a plural, fair and equitable manner.” The challenge will be presented by the General Legal Coordination of the PAN, headed by Raymundo Bolaños Azócar.
