Palmeiras won their third Paulistão Women’s Football Championship with a 2-0 victory over Corinthians on penalties, at the Brinco de Ouro stadium, in Campinas (SP), after a 2-2 draw on aggregate. Colombian Tapia, goalkeeper for Palestrinas, saved three of Timão’s shots and the other two went against the post. Fê Palermo and Ingryd found the net for Palestrinas and secured their third title (the first two were in 2001 and 2022). The victory of Palmeiras interrupts the hegemony of Brabas, four-time champions of São Paulo last year.
This Wednesday (20), Palmeiras, led just over a year ago by coach Camilla Orlando, entered the field with a 1-0 disadvantage on the scoreboard, as they had lost 1-0 at home, the first game of the final in the last Friday (15). This afternoon, in the first half of the match, the Palestrinas opened 2-0, with goals from top scorer Amanda Gutierrez (total of eight goals in the tournament) and Dudinha. At the end of the break, Vitória Yaya left the bench and scored for Corinthians.

In the first minute of the match, the Palestrinas almost opened the scoring with a beautiful shot by Laís Estevan, which went close to Lelê’s goal. It was just the beginning of Verdão’s dominance. In the 12th minute, midfielder Brena crossed for Amanda Gutierrez, who invaded the penalty area and found the back of Lelê’s net, equaling the aggregate score of the tournament final at 1-1. With the goal scored this afternoon, Amanda ended Paulistão Feminino in the isolated lead, with eight goals in total. The Palestrinas continued to put pressure on the Brabas and collected scoring chances. In the 22nd minute, defender Poliana took advantage of a ball thrown into the Corinthians area to try to add a volley, but goalkeeper Lelê made a great save. Five minutes later, Lelê saved Corinthians, sending a poisonous ball kicked by Dudinha to the corner. At 33, it was Brena’s turn to hit a ball from outside the area, but after a VAR review, the goal was disallowed due to a handball from Daiane Muniz, at the beginning of the play. After insisting so much, Verdão’s second goal came in the 41st minute, again assisted by Brena. Shirt number 7 took a free kick in the area to Amanda Guttierrez, who set up Dudinha to score a great goal, extending Palmeiras’ lead to 2-1 on aggregate.

After the break, midfielder Vitória Yaya left the Brabas bench to replace number 10 Gabi Zanotti. And it worked very well. One minute into the game, Yaya took advantage of Yasmin’s cross and headed it in, equalizing the aggregate at 2-2, a result that would take the title decision to a penalty shootout. After the draw, the teams slowed down. In the 24th minute, Carol Nogueira finished from outside the area, but goalkeeper Tápia avoided the goal. Three minutes later, Yoreli Ricón shot from the edge of the area and the ball went close to Lelê’s goal. The Palestrinas’ best chance to define the match was in the 36th minute, with midfielder Ingryd: alone in the penalty area, the number 5 lost her balance when taking the shot and lost the ball to opposing striker Carol Nogueira. With the end of the match approaching, the teams managed the result until the final whistle.

Penalties
Colombian Kate Tapia, Palmeiras goalkeeper, was the highlight of the penalties. She defended Duda Sampaio’s first charge for Corinthians. Next, top scorer Amanda Gutierrez wasted a shot at the post. Then it was Corinthians Eudmilla’s turn to hit the post too. The score remained 0-0 when Fê Palermou hit the back of the net, putting Palmeira ahead. Then Milene took the ball for Corinthians and Tapia shone again, avoiding Brabas’ goal. In Palmeiras’ fourth shot, Ingryd extended the goal for Paestrinas and, then, Tapia saved Carol Santiago’s shot, sealing Verdão’s 2-0 victory.
