With a gala performance, Palmeiras defeated LDU (Ecuador) by a score of 4-0, on Thursday night (30) at Allianz Parque, and guaranteed qualification for the Copa Libertadores da América final, where they will meet Flamengo, who, last Wednesday (29), held a draw with Racing (Argentina) to reach the final of the continental competition.

This was the sixth time in history that a team made it through to the Libertadores after losing the first game by a three-goal difference. The first time in a semi-final stage. Now, Verdão and Rubro-Negro will star in the sixth Libertadores final between two teams from Brazil, on November 29th at the Monumental stadium in Lima (Peru).

After losing 3-0 in the first leg, played at 2,850 meters above sea level in the city of Quito, the team led by Portuguese coach Abel Ferreira entered the field with the obligation to take risks in attack to try to score the goals that would take them to classification.
For this, the Verdão commander (who stated during the week that “90 minutes at Allianz Parque is a long time” to build the score necessary to guarantee classification) opted for a different formation, with three defenders, two wingers who reached the bottom line and an attacking trio formed by Vitor Roque, Flaco López and Ramón Sosa.
And Abel Ferreira’s bet didn’t take long to pay off, with Sosa opening the scoring in the 19th minute. First, Allan, another new member of the starting team, made a great move on the right and lifted the ball into the area, where the Paraguayan freed himself from the marking and scored with a header.

Palmeiras continued to pile up opportunities, and came very close to adding another in the 35th minute, when, in a counterattack, Vitor Roque faced goalkeeper Álex Domínguez. However, defender Mina blocked the Brazilian’s shot.
Verdão wanted the second before the break, and it came in the 49th minute. After a rehearsed free kick, the ball fell to defender Bruno Fuchs, who hit hard to beat goalkeeper Álex Domínguez.

After the break, Palmeiras’ performance dropped a little. And coach Abel Ferreira made a change that gave new life to his team. He fielded midfielder Raphael Veiga, who scored not just one goal, but two.
The first came in the 22nd minute, when Raphael Veiga received the ball inside the area, after playing with Vitor Roque, and, inside the area, hit the ball with his left to put the ball in the back of the goal. Verdão’s number 23 made the decision again in the 36th minute, coolly taking the penalty to score the goal that guaranteed an epic victory that confirmed the classification in regulation time.
