Tensions have risen inside prisons since prison authorities reduced outdoor time.
Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails have taken a series of measures against recent restrictions imposed on them by prison authorities, prisoner rights groups reported, adding that the Israeli measures amounted to collective punishment.
All prisoners refuse to leave their cells for the allotted time in the yard since Israeli prison authorities reduced the time and number of prisoners allowed out at one time on February 5, in violation of previous agreements between detainees and prison administration.
Inmates have access to an average of five to six hours in the courtyard, also called the forum, every day, divided into morning and afternoon shifts. But the duration has been reduced by more than half.
The prison movement announced at the end of last week that Friday and Monday would be Days of Fury, as part of the protests.
On Friday, the detainees refused to return to their rooms after prayers in the courtyard. The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) said that the authorities sent special forces as reinforcements for any escalation.
Some 4,500 Palestinians are detained in Israeli prisons, including 180 minors and 32 women, according to updated data released the day before.
Since September 2021, tension has increased in these centers, after the escape of six Palestinians from the maximum security prison of Gilboa in the north.
After a massive manhunt, they were caught, and Tel Aviv officials applied numerous punitive measures against the rest of the detainees, sparking clashes and strikes.
Although agreements were later reached between the parties, the decision of the Tel Aviv Prison Authority (IPS) to fail to comply with them provoked a new wave of protests a few days ago.
The prisoners have also announced the dissolution of their representative bodies that coordinate with the prison authorities, which means that each prisoner is free to do whatever they want to express their grievances.
