From Monday, May 22, the comprehensive obesity management office starts operating at the Mariano Roque Alonso District Hospital.

Care will be provided by a multidisciplinary team made up of a professional doctor, psychologist, nutritionist and kinesiologist, on Mondays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. through face-to-face scheduling.

The obesity is a chronic diseaseprogressive in which a person accumulates an excessive amount of body fat that can be detrimental to their health.

In Paraguay, overweight and obesity affect 58% of the adult population and 34.6% of schoolchildren and adolescents.

That is to say, 6 out of 10 adults are overweight and 1 out of 3 children and adolescents have this health condition, according to data from the First National Survey of Risk Factors for Noncommunicable Diseases and the Food and Nutrition Surveillance System (SISVAN-INAN), of the Ministry of Public Health.

On the other hand, about as 2,600 deaths a year are attributed to obesity In our country.

Obesity, more than an aesthetic problem, is considered a chronic disease and a risk factor for the development of other diseases such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, certain types of cancer, cardiovascular conditions, depression and anxiety, among othersras, and as such, help from health professionals should be sought to improve the quality of life of those who suffer from it.
