On December 31, the tragedy that struck his family occurred.

News Colombia.

He Nevados National Parkknown for its natural majesty and imposing beauty, became the scene of a tragedy that forever marked the life of Joys Ramirez. The young woman, through tears and with a broken voice, recounted the painful moments she experienced on December 31, when her boyfriend, Kevin Hernandez Bocanegralost his life during a walk that should have been an unforgettable experience.

“We were excited to close out the year in such a magical place,” Joys recalls. The couple, originally from Manizales, had planned the trip as a way to escape routine and connect with nature. They were both lovers of outdoor hiking, although Kevin, according to Joyce, was less experienced in high mountain terrain. “We had prepared ourselves, but we never imagined that something so horrible could happen.”

The day started with excitement and laughter. In the early hours of the morning, Kevin and Joys began the ascent towards one of the best-known peaks in the park. However, climatic conditions, typically changeable in this region, began to deteriorate rapidly. “The cold was intense, and the fog became so dense that we could barely see a few steps in front of us,” says Joyce. Despite the difficulty, Kevin insisted on continuing, confident that they could reach the shelter before the situation worsened.

The descent turned out to be the most complicated part of the journey. Joyce describes how Kevin began to show signs of exhaustion and difficulty breathing, symptoms that would later be confirmed as the onset of high-altitude pulmonary edema, a dangerous condition caused by a lack of oxygen at high altitudes. “I tried to encourage him, I told him that there was only a little bit left, but he no longer had the strength. “He fell to the ground and couldn’t get up.”

Desperate, Joys tried to get help. Despite their efforts to revive Kevin and keep him awake, his condition rapidly worsened. “I felt how his hand was getting cold. “I spoke to him, but he no longer responded,” he says with a broken voice. Finally, and before they could receive help, Kevin died in her arms, leaving Joyce devastated in the midst of the imposing solitude of the wasteland.

The tragedy has raised questions about the safety measures and preparation necessary for such excursions. Joys, now a spokesperson for pain and prevention, warns other adventurers about the risks they underestimated in their case. “The park is beautiful, but it is also a place where nature does not forgive. “We weren’t prepared for something like that.”

Kevin Hernández Bocanegra, 28, was a charismatic and dreamy young man, who according to his friends and family, always looked for a way to make those around him smile. His death has generated shock among those who knew him and has ignited a debate about the need for greater control in risky tourist activities.

Joys’ grief is now a palpable reminder of human fragility in the face of natural elements. Although her days are tinged with sadness, she says she will honor Kevin’s memory by fighting so that others do not have to go through the same experience. “He loved life, and that’s why I want to tell our story. So that no one else loses a loved one this way.”

The Nevados National Park, despite its majesty, is also a reminder of the dangers that nature hides. The story of Kevin and Joys will remain engraved in the collective memory as a testimony of love, bravery and, above all, the importance of respecting the limits that man often forgets.
