The Minister for Defense, Vladimir Padrino López, highlighted this Wednesday the civic-military union demonstrated on April 13, 2002, to face the coup against the commander and then president Hugo Chávez.
Through a statement, published on the website of the Ministry for Defense, Padrino López asserted that on that day, “a new geopolitical reality was defined for Venezuela.
He stressed that April 13, 2002 was a historic episode, which represented the genesis of the Bolivarian National Militia.
«April 13, 2002… Turning point of the Bolivarian Revolution that defined a new geopolitical reality for Venezuela. This popular rebellion was the most forceful response to the unfortunate days of perverse communicational onslaught orchestrated by North American imperialism and its de facto powers. The objective: to forge a criminal coup d’état,” the statement begins.
In this sense, he stressed that “the patriotic and rebellious consciousness” promoted by Commander Chavez managed to defeat “the fascist actions of those who subverted the constitutional order” in less than 48 hours.
«This perfect civic-military fusion, bastion of anti-imperialist resistance, defeated any attempt to annihilate the Bolivarian Project. Hence, April 13 became the Day of the Bolivarian Militia, of the People in Arms and of the April Revolution; a historical episode that represented the genesis of this Special Component, a strategic weapon of the nation for its comprehensive defense against the certain threats of great foreign powers”, pointed out the head of the ministerial entity.
In this regard, he asserted that this April Revolution became an example for the peoples of the continent.
“We share the joy of all the militia men and women, expressing the most fervent congratulations for their proven patriotic commitment. Likewise, we salute with special respect Major General Wistohor Chourio Andrade, its Commander General, an authentic revolutionary soldier who embodies and embraces the popular cause and who, with courage and brilliance, successfully leads them in the fulfillment of their mission,” the text stated.
