The sectoral vice president of Defense and Sovereignty, GJ Vladimir Padrino López, said this Thursday that sovereignty and freedom are inseparable concepts and fundamental pillars of the Republic.
The statements were offered during the ceremony of delivery of the Mariche Metrocable systemin the state of Miranda, headed by President Nicolás Maduro.
Padrino López emphasized that the idea of homeland is incomplete without a broad and deep vision of what the people represent as the driving force of the nation. “There cannot be sovereignty if there is no freedom, and there cannot be freedom if there is no sovereignty,” he stated.
The commune as the axis of national geopolitics
The senior official highlighted that the commune constitutes the central axis of Venezuelan geopolitics, being a direct expression of organized popular power.
“The commune is the heart of our geopolitics, because it does not respond to elites subject to foreign interests, but is imposed from the bases, from the people themselves,” he noted.
Padrino López stressed that this vision of the country is built from popular participation and not from structures that seek to subject the nation to external agendas.
Defense of sovereignty in times of threat
Padrino López’s words come in a context of aggression, following recent threats from US President Donald Trump, who announced a naval blockade against Venezuela and stated that the country’s resources belong to the United States.
In this scenario, the Venezuelan Government has insisted that the defense of sovereignty and freedom is inseparable from popular participation and the consolidation of a geopolitics model based on communes and social organization from the grassroots.
