The Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, said that, for Brazil’s positive economic scenario to be, in fact, sustainable, it is essential that the National Congress maintains its focus on approving the tax reform.Padilha: sustainable economic growth demands tax reform

The matter was discussed this Monday (14), during the meeting, in Planalto, between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and ministers and government leaders in the Legislature, Padilha reported.

“Tax reform is very important for us to take another step to sustain the country’s current cycle of economic growth, reducing unemployment and improving family income,” said Padilha, remembering that 10 years ago Brazil did not grow more than 3 % for two consecutive years.

“We are increasingly confirming the expectation of growth of more than 3%. Furthermore, we reached the lowest unemployment rate since 2012. The gain for families was the biggest increase in family income since 2012”, argued the minister when associating approval, regulation and implementation of the tax reform with maintaining sustainable growth for the country. .

The government expects to complete the regulation this year. “We believe that it is also an objective commitment from the president of both houses [legislativas]to end as a legacy of the presidencies [das duas casas] and the entire National Congress”, he added.

“President Lula determined that Senacon [Secretaria Nacional do Consumidor] provide full support to consumers in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, including gathering information on situations of inaction by local governments in relation to any care taken by the population, who are affected and suffering from this dealership [Enel]”, said Padilha.

According to the minister, some federal government measures will be announced today. “We will also open investigations into any failure that may have existed or irregularity on the part of the private concessionaire, possibly also in relation to servers from the National Electric Energy Agency”, he added, classifying Enel’s “absurd stance” in making only 12 teams available for serving the entire ABC region.
