The Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, decided not to join the Brazilian entourage that goes to the United States next week to the 80th General Assembly of the United Nations. In a statement, the Ministry of Health states that the decision was made after Donald Trump’s government imposes restrictions on the minister’s visa. 
“In a statement received from the United States mission to the United Nations, the Brazilian Ministry of Health was informed of the ban imposed on Minister Alexandre Padilha to participate in person in the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO),” the ministry said.
“The decision violates the UN and Brazil’s right agreement to present its proposals in the most important global health forum to the Americas. The country is a reference in world public health and one of the leading articulators of actions aimed at defending vaccine, science and life.”
The visa granted by the United States would only allow the hotel’s restricted displacements to the UN, as well as medical facilities in an emergency.
According to the Ministry of Health, “due to these unfounded and arbitrary limitations to the Brazilian diplomatic exercise,” Minister Alexandre Padilha will remain in Brazil, dedicated to the vote of the Provisional Measure of the program now has specialists in the National Congress.
“This is not a measure of retaliation for the minister, but to which Brazil represents in the fight against negationism that removes the right of children to vaccinate and guide the health-related setbacks that the US population faces,” the ministry points out.
