The senator of the Broad Front, Alejandro ‘Pacha’ Sánchez was one of those who led the questioning of the Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, the Deputy Secretary of the Presidency, Rodrigo Ferrés, and the Director of State Intelligence, Álvaro Garcé, who were summoned so that they expose everything that is known about the notorious case of Luis Lacalle Pou’s excustory, Alejandro Astesiano, who is accused of leading a network of sale of false passports to Russian citizens with operations from the Executive Tower itself, seat of the national government.
Sanchez stated that “Since the presidency of the Republic, the doors were opened wide to organized crime and perhaps even links with the Russian mafia, setting up a corruption scheme to facilitate passports for illegal activities at the international level.”
“The President of the Republic and the government must begin by telling us the whole truth. But the whole truth”, sentenced the leftist legislator.
In addition, he asked that it be disclosed if President Lacalle Pou knew that Astesiano had a file with more than 30 police inquiries, ranging from 2002 to 2018, as well as two judicial records: one from 2022 in which he was prosecuted without prison for fraud, and another from 2013 in which he was prosecuted with prison, also for fraud.
“Take responsibility for the similar responsibility that the president (Lacalle Pou) has and also you,” said Sánchez, looking at Heber, Ferrés and Garcé, and added: “The government has wanted to encapsulate an elephant in a vial, but that is not possible. ”.
“At best this was not naivety, but negligence. And it is very serious that the credibility of the presidency, the security of the national defense, were put at risk due to negligent decisions,” he continued.
The FA maintains that Garcé is responsible for the fact that Astesiano was at Lacalle Pou’s side, coordinating the security of the highest hierarch of the State, and they also assure that Heber “recognized” that he hid information from the president about the background of the aforementioned.
“Astesiano was not a custodian, he had enormous responsibilities in the structure of the Presidency for presidential security. How much sensitive and strategic information of the State, of the Security and of the Defense of the Republic could Astesiano have sold to international crime ”, questioned later in his speech the senator from the Front.
