The concert of the notable Cuban singer-songwriter Paul Milanesscheduled for next Tuesday, June 21 at the National Theater in Havana, was transferred to the Ciudad Deportiva Coliseum, according to official sources.
The decision is made “with the aim of facilitating greater assistance”, after the controversy unleashed by the limited ticket sales for the presentation, which is part of the “Days of Light” tour.
As reported by the Cuban Institute of Music (ICM), the change is due to an agreement reached by that entity with the Artistic Office of Pablo Milanés, so now the concert will be held on Tuesday itself at 8:30 p.m. in the coliseum of the Sports City.
According to the official communication, “the authorities of the institution and Pablo Milanés’ team have taken into account the requests of those who have expressed interest in participating in the show”, an allusion to the numerous complaints and criticisms after the few entries sold to the hundreds of people who went to the National Theater last Wednesday in search of tickets.
“Tickets sold at the National Theater of Cuba remain valid,” adds the note, according to which “people who wish to return them may do so at the theater’s box office and will receive the corresponding amount.”
The ICM specified that tickets for the new location will also be sold at the National Theater box office, this Saturday, June 18, starting at 1:00 PM, while access to the Sports City Coliseum will begin at 6:00. PM June 21.
The entity added that “in the conception and organization of the show, work has been done with seriousness and transparency” and that “the consideration that this is a concert for the people, who deserve to enjoy the work of a great artist, has prevailed.”
Pablo Milanés, 76, is one of the iconic figures of the Cuban Nueva Trova and in recent times has maintained an active presence in Spanish theaters, as far as his “Días de luz” tour has taken.
It is expected that in his presentation in Havana, the author of essential themes of the Ibero-American song such as “Yolanda” and “The brief space in which you are not” will review great classics of his work and present new songs to his many faithful on the Island.
One of the last presentations of Milanés in Havana took place at the Karl Marx theater, in September 2018. Then he was accompanied, among others, by Pancho Céspedes and Carlos Varela.
Then, in December 2019, he accompanied his daughter Haydée Milanés in a concert offered in the courtyard of the National Museum of Fine Arts.
