Pablo Mieres does not see a “model of inequality” in Uruguayan society at the moment, or at least he considers it so when criticizing the president of the PIT-CNT, Marcelo Abdala, who spoke precisely about the inequality that exists and how a better distribution of wealth could reduce this phenomenon.
In this sense, Mieres affirmed that the statistical data “do not support” the existence of a model of inequality in the country, as Abdala had pointed out in his speech. With these statements, the minister has called into question the diagnosis made by the union leader and has opened a debate about the socioeconomic situation of the Uruguay under the International Workers’ Day.
The minister also told the press that “there is an important analysis error on the part of the trade union center” when “classifying a social security reform that seeks to prevent the resources of Uruguayans from increasingly going to retirement and pensionsto allow them to be used in other priorities, such as reducing child poverty”.
“But this is democracy and you have to be (in the act), the worst thing we can do to Uruguay and to the future is to break the communication channels. So we listen, totally calm, but knowing that an analysis is being expressed that is not in line with reality”, emphasized the coalitionist hierarch and leader of the Independent Party.
