The Corporate Affairs Manager of Minera Poderosa, Pablo de la Flor, did not take long to respond to the president of Congress, Eduardo Salhuanawho, through a letter, demanded that he rectify himself, after the mining company’s executive pointed out at an event that the apepista has links to informal mining.
“…the expressions that you question do not impute any specific fact to him, but rather constitute critical and generic evaluations of his performance as a congressman of the Republic and certainly of his position as president of Congress. They constitute opinions reasonably based on abundant public information disseminated by various media outlets that, to the best of my knowledge, you have not challenged through any legal action,” argued De la Flor, in a public statement.
“I understand that the opinions you question are not pleasant to you and generate some type of displeasure or discomfort, but that does not mean they stop having constitutional protection in the legitimate exercise of freedom of expression. In accordance with international standards and our Constitution, the criminalization of opinions is prohibited,” the document reads.
After explaining his arguments, De la Flor points out that Salhuana’s request to rectify himself “lacks any factual and legal basis, and does not correspond to his status as a senior State official.”
