A truck that was traveling on the Fernando Belaunde Terry Highway suffered a mistake and ended up falling into a river, resulting in the death of its driver. The accident occurred on the night of Wednesday, January 1, at kilometer 88, in the Yulculmas sector, Villa Rica district, Oxapampa province.

The victim was identified as Héctor Reyes Quispe, 39, who was driving the unit from Iscozacin towards La Merced. The vehicle was transporting agricultural products, including papaya, as well as gas cylinders.
After the impact, the driver was trapped in the cabin of the truck. Neighbors in the area, along with police and security personnel, participated in the rescue efforts, managing to recover the body hours later.
Representatives of the Public Ministry ordered the transfer of the deceased to the La Merced morgue for the corresponding procedures. Investigations continue to determine the causes of the accident, which occurred on a section of the road considered highly dangerous.
