Technical inspections on properties to evaluate equine conditions in the face of high temperatures
The Animal Welfare Coordination of the Municipality of Cerro Largo, together with personnel from the Ministry of the Interior, is carrying out inspections in different properties of the department with the objective of evaluating the conditions of the horses. These measures are implemented due to the high temperatures that affect the region, which can put the well-being of the animals at risk.
Horacio Cabreraresponsible for coordination, reported that the tours include notifications and meetings with the owners of the horses, seeking to guarantee compliance with animal welfare regulations. As he explained, “Numerous cases have been identified of animals tied up in vacant lots, with limited access to water, shade and food. On many occasions, horses have movement restrictions due to short ropes, which prevents them from reaching shaded areas or hydrating properly.”
The technical team is focused on verifying each case and carrying out the necessary interventions. “The properties that have not been visited so far will be inspected in the coming days, ensuring that the corresponding measures are taken to avoid situations of abuse or neglect,” Cabrera stated.
These actions seek to promote responsible practices in the care of horses and raise awareness among owners about the importance of providing the minimum conditions necessary to preserve the health and well-being of the animals, especially in the face of high summer temperatures.
