The dream begins to come true for COVIFUM 20
As we reported from time to time in THE DIARY PROFESSIONALseveral Cerro Largo Housing Cooperatives were favored in the drawing that was held on the eve of Christmas at the headquarters of the Ministry of Housing in Montevideo.
In the specific case of COVIFUM 20, the approval was direct for having participated and not having been drawn in 3 consecutive instances.
One of the members of the Cooperative, which will build its complex in the Falcón neighborhood of the city of Melo, said that it is the reward for a lot of effort over several years. In addition, he called on those who still do not have a home to join and never give up.
“We are COVIFUM 20, we have been fighting for the dream of our own little house for a long time, with many benefits realized and raffles sold. We had been fighting for it and we had to travel on December 23 to be in the draw and the possibility came up by direct award” counted Sentia Castro.
“With this one last week it was the third draw in which we participated, that’s why the direct award” explained to THE DIARY PROFESSIONAL one of the cooperative members. “You just had to meet the requirement of participating in the three draws” he added.
“We live the moment with great satisfaction and deep emotion knowing that this coming year we will begin to build the dream of our own home” he stated.
COVIFUM 20 has 17 members and the housing complex will be built on José Remigio Noble Street in Barrio Falcón, near Barrio Las Acacias, southeast of the capital of the department of Cerro Largo.
“It took us a while to find the right land, but happily we now have it” Castro remarked.
“In the month of January we are going to have a meeting with the Technicians whom we thank for all the support they have given us. There they will tell us the steps to follow to finally give way to the work itself” he commented.
He estimated that work would begin at the end of November or beginning of December 2026.
“We are very grateful to everyone for everything they have given us, both to the society of Melo and to the rest of the department. Now we are one step closer and with the certainty that very soon we will have our own house” said Sintia Castro.
In the current month of January there will be a meeting of the Cooperative’s Board of Directors to begin to outline new benefits to have a reserve of money for new expenses that may arise. “We will have to buy clothes and tools for the construction itself” held.
According to the regulations of this cooperative system, each member must work 4 hours a day. “It is an issue that we have already talked about and we are all on track.” he assured.
“Cerro Largo received a lot of blessing on the same day because 4 other cooperatives were favored and they are going to build together with us, they are going to start the work” projection.
Sintia Castro addressed families who still do not have their own home. “It takes a lot of teamwork, collective work, but let them fight for their housing, have a lot of faith because with joint work everything is possible” he pointed out. “You have to have a lot of perseverance and above all a lot of patience because it is difficult, but it is achieved” he added.
“On behalf of all the members of COVIFUM 20 we wanted to wish all of Cerro Largo a year full of teamwork, collective strength and many achievements built in solidarity” he concluded.
