Overturned truck in Las Tunas leaves more than 50 injured

More than 50 injured adds up to car accident occurred this Friday at kilometer 21 of the highway that links the municipalities of Amancio and Colombia, Cuban province of Las Tunas. So far there were no fatalities.

The event occurred after 3:30 in the afternoon, when a passenger truck that covered the Amancio-Colombia route overturned. The number of injured ranged between 52 and 54, according to various reports in the local newspaper.

However, six of the injured were reported to be in danger to their lives. Among them, two children with head trauma and two pregnant women. Eight injured are in pediatric ages.

Dr. Katiana González, director of Health in the municipality of Colombia, informed the press that of the injured 41 had residence in that territory, nine corresponded to Amancio and two to Guáimaro, Camagüey.

The specialist specified that some cases were referred to the Ernesto Guevara Provincial Hospital, and pointed out that in the municipality they had the conditions to care for those who stayed in the local health center.

The causes of the accident were not yet defined, according to a report of the Cuban News Agency (ACN).

From its social networks, the local newspaper also asked the population for help with blood donations.

Both in the final days of last year and at the beginning of this 2023 there has been an increase in traffic accidents on the Island, several of them tending to mass transport as protagonists.
