Our deep and wild poverty

Dos personas sin hogar, en La Habana, Cuba

“Our” deep, overwhelming, endemic and wild poverty has been the result of a long process of political submission.

Havana, Cuba. – According to the VIII Study on the State of Social Rights in Cubareleased by the Cuban Observatory of Human Rights, the Communist Party (PCC) governs almost miraculously with a 92 percent disapproval, an undoubtedly lethal figure for any political group in power, more if it appears combined with the others of the survey, among which 89 percent of the population in extreme poverty stands out!

It is a difficult figure to assimilate, because it is a number that encompasses almost 9 million people, in a territory where it is possible that, among exodus, premature deaths and low birth, we do not reach 10 million close to 10 million, which would result in an even more serious figure, and therefore in the certainty that Cuba is a country that dies quickly or, in other words, a country that is being annihilated by the selfish policies of a mediocre dictatorship that is only interested in staying in power.

The percentage of extreme poverty is hard, so much that some refuse to accept it, question it from astonish Criminal, terrorist, who has kidnapped power, which aims to eternalize in it, “at the price that is necessary.”

Part of that “price” that “pays” is precisely the high disapproval, which they in turn make us pay, as general and perpetual punishment, with our frightening poverty, and with our sickly blindness in front of it.

Although many on the island, by personal shame or by posttraumatic denial, refuse to recognize themselves extremely poor – in a context where salaries do not reach (absolutely none), where you eat what you can (or what “you fight”), and where to receive a small remittance from the outside (at the expense of the sacrifice of others) makes you “privileged” or make you feel like such All already as a neighbor, already as part of us, of our family environment, and only do not see it because We have used to living with her, or rather, to be part of it.

We get used to eating badly, dressing badly, sleeping badly and being badly treated; to feel “good” when we are a “little less bad”; To sacrifice our stomachs for a couple of shoes, and to adjust to the lower level of our moral and ethical principles, our expectations and goals, for such a month to come alive, or at least with something that seems to him and with which he hides that we are “less poor” of what we really are, because we are shame, we are hurt by pride Universe

Because we are so resounding and scandalously poor that our neighbor Haiti We think paradise when we travel there to import the “pacotilla” that is not in Cuba, and that makes us go through rich, amid so much misery.

We have become accustomed to repeating ourselves, as the only relief in the face of the raw truth, that we are not that poor of the statistics that we really are.

“We” would actually be a “we have.” Because “ours” deep, overwhelming and wild poverty, has been the result of a long process of political submission, where they forced us to accept that this is exclusive to capitalism (and incompatible with socialism) and that, therefore, what we suffer from Cubans is “something else” that has nothing to do with it, although we know from our own experience that the political alternative that they offer us (under repression and terror) more ruthless capitalism.

Extreme poverty has been the price to be paid for that strange creature that we have “bought” collectively under the deceptive labels of “sovereignty”, “freedom”, “independence” that every day make us less sovereign, less free and more dependent on the benefactor on duty: Russia, China, Vietnam, Belarus, the European Union and even that the United States to which some of the United States still blames. Paradoxically, it has remained in recent years as the first commercial partner, taking into account the volume of imported goods between food, medicines, appliances, cars, clothes, shoes and even the unimaginable.

It can even be said, without fear of being wrong, that Cuba has not collapsed under the weight of such poverty due to the importance of the United States in the individual salvation strategies of each of us (emigration, remittances, private ventures), as well as in those of a very aware regime that it remains in power only because its “enemy” is, at the same time, its most important financial support.

A paradox that, beyond opportunisms and fears, keeps the “great enigma” of why Castroism has not fallen despite having just 8 percent approval. That is, a number so low that it would include a minimum fraction (not even the totality) of military, repressors, PCC militants, and even “leaders”, to whom we have already seen to drain silently, by dozens, seeking refuge on the other shore.

In short, that we are not poorer – or we do not recognize ourselves as such – precisely because the United States has contributed, with that constant injection of goods and dollars, to alleviate that poverty, to keep it at that level at which it strategically prefers us a regime, because it uses it systematically to submit, and to press so that the same ones who disapprove of it are those who support it financially, together with that minimal fraction that supports it. Because, among shipping companies to Cuba, sales On Line (Apart from the world dominated by Amazon, Shein and others), “private” enterprises without real competence, off-shares, Corruption, drug trafficking and money laundering, has turned extreme poverty into its most profitable business.
