Faces, situations, penetrating gazes and life from the depths of each expression can be seen in the most recent photographic exhibition of the young artist Osmel Azcuy, entitled “Memories of my Havana”, exhibited at the Malecón 663 Boutique Hotel.

In each of the 15 works that make up the exhibition, the author’s will to be a chronicler of events is explicit, where love and spirituality flow as part of a constant dialogue with the spaces and people portrayed in Havana.
About these details, Osmel Azcuy spoke exclusively for ACN.
-What does your work represent?
“My work represents emotion. Not only mine, but also that of the person who is being portrayed instantly. They are images taken in the midst of a pandemic, since I have been taking photographs professionally for two and a half years.
They reflect a moment, a feeling and a unique state of mind, because I never go out looking for anything. Every idea of every work comes to me. It’s an emotional process, from the personal to the collective.”
-Why make yourself known with this type of photography?
“The Freedom of Eccentricity”
“I have always done artistic photography, I like to convey a message. I studied theater and I love drama and performance. Therefore, I saw myself completely reflected in photography after I tried it on several occasions thanks to my grandfather and a friend”.
-Can you comment on what you have learned during this whole process?
“I have realized that many people have a dark side that they do not want to show and a happy one, which is the face with which the world knows them. I feel that a little more freedom is missing, of understanding that we can make mistakes, have days bad or just need to sleep. It’s never good to be someone’s buffoon.

All of the above, in one way or another, is reflected in my photographs, mixed with my personal chaos.”
-You speak of emotion as the common characteristic that unites each piece. What is the message you want the viewer to take on when they see this exhibition?
“There are people who do not want to show who they really are. My message is: free yourself so that nothing and no one can stop you.
Be happy with your inner monsters and with your joys. It is important to get up every day and think that we can eat the world, no matter how many walls there are. Focus on the positive, not the negative. So maybe the memories of our lives, in the future, won’t be so bad.”
