Mexico City, Mexico.- The mother of osman He died after a hemorrhage the same day he was born, a year ago, at the Camilo Cienfuegos Provincial General Hospital in Sancti Spíritus. For the child, the traumatic birth was not easy either. As a result, he was admitted to neonatal intensive care for up to four months.
The little boy suffered severe hypoxia (lack of oxygen) that caused multiple damage, especially to the central nervous system. He was also diagnosed with West syndrome, a severe type of epilepsy characterized by severe spasms and delayed psychomotor development.
Later, when they stabilized him, the little one was moved to Trinidad where he continues to be hospitalized, not so much because he needs it to survive; but by the abandonment of his family. There he receives donations from patients and health personnel who bring him clothes, diapers, cologne.
“The maternal family ignored the baby and the father alleges that he does not have the conditions at home to care for him. It was then that he set up this isolated room in the Respiratory room, where he remains surrounded by a lot of affection ”, he relates the periOdic Escambray.
Who takes care of it?
Without people who share his blood willing to take care of him, the baby has become the “grandson” of Addi Lucía Saroza Pichardo, a nurse with 37 years of experience in Pediatrics.
“He arrived very delicate, with bilateral optic atrophy and swallowing difficulties, for which an endoscopic gastrostomy tube had been placed, which is the only way to feed him,” Addi explained to the provincial media.
She is in charge of Osmán’s care from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The rest of the time, other professionals do it. Although Saroza has become so close to the baby that even when she takes vacations she goes to visit him daily so that he doesn’t miss her, and also because she misses him. The nurse, in addition to taking care of him in Trinidad, is in charge of taking him to medical appointments in the provincial capital.
“The physiotherapist explains to me that I have to stimulate him through sounds because his vision is very limited and only in one eye. I also do the exercises to strengthen his body, ”he said.
Due to his conditions, Osmán is unable to eat, except for a formula that is administered through an endoscopic gastrostomy tube. They have caused nutritional disorders. These, together with his multiple ailments, hinder the development of the baby, who will never be able to have a normal life; but that he continues to struggle to survive and at least today he has Addi by his side.
