Suyen Barahona turns 18 months kidnapped and with zero communication with her son

Ortega’s dictatorship finally allowed a call between Suyen Barahona and her child

After more than 18 months of holding political prisoner Suyen Barahona captive and denying her communication with her five-year-old son, the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo authorized a call between mother and son this Sunday, December 25, during the 13th day of visits to the opponents imprisoned in the cells of the Evaristo Vásquez Police Complex, known as “El Nuevo Chipote”, in Managua.

In a statement, the relatives of Suyen Barahona detailed that the president of Unamos “was able to see photos of the child and received a letter. Finally, after a year and a half, she was able to have a call with her son. It was a long-awaited moment for both of them.”

They also stressed that “during the visit there was respectful treatment, which we hope continues to be the daily practice and that communication continues to flow, according to law, and for the well-being of the child.”

«Suyen was with his usual strength of spirit. Of course, the greatest desire of both her little one and the family continues to be to embrace her in freedom, because Suyen and the more than 235 political prisoners are innocent”, highlighted the family of the opposition leader, who has been imprisoned since last 13 June 2021.

It should be noted that both César Dubois, Barahona’s husband, and his son are out of Nicaragua as a result of the arbitrary detention of the political activist.

On the other hand, the #UnaLlamadaParaSuyen campaign yielded “fruits”, because it was possible for the president of Unamos to communicate with her little one. Virtuality allowed the mother and her five-year-old son to meet again after more than 18 months forcibly separated.

For more than 18 months, the authorities of “El Nuevo Chipote” prevented the boy’s letters and drawings from being delivered to his mother, despite the fact that the lawyer for the area of conscience has filed appeals before the Court of Appeals of Managua and none have been answered.

Suyen Barahona was sentenced for Ulisa Yaoska Tapia Silvahead of the Thirteenth Criminal Trial Court of Managua, to eight years in prison for the crime of “undermining national integrity” to the Sandinista dissident, also disqualified her from holding public office.

Another visit that the police authorities announced to the political prisoners held in “El Nuevo Chipote” is scheduled for December 31, on the occasion of the New Year holidays.
