The Nicaraguan regime will commemorate this Monday, August 22, the 44th anniversary of the assault on the National Palace of Nicaragua, one of the actions that contributed to the overthrow of the Somoza dictatorship. Commanders Hugo Torres and Dora María Téllez, victims of Ortega, led that action that forced the release of 60 political prisoners at the time.
Vice President Rosario Murillo reported that the “celebration” will take place in the building confiscated from the Organization of American States (OAS) where the “Father Miguel D’Escoto Brockmann House of Sovereignty” will function.

“This afternoon we all participate in the heroic commemoration of that moment of so much pride. We are proud of all the compañeros and compañeras who applauded from afar because we were not there, that heroic and victorious action. So this afternoon we are all going to commemorate together, participating in the installation of the Father Miguel D’Escoto Brockmann House of Sovereignty,” said the deputy dictator.
He said that the commemorative act represents the continuity “of the historical courage and the decision of freedom, dignity, sovereignty, fraternity, of conviction of sovereignty of our people who are blessed and who are always worthy and free.”
The building that the OAS rented before being expropriated belonged to the sisters Luz Marina and María Auxiliadora Navarrete Guevara, who have not publicly referred to the issue. In this way today the confiscation of the continental body is consummated.
Tellez and Torres, heroes turned into victims of Ortega
The first lady took advantage of the occasion to greet the Sandinista guerrillas who participated in the assault on the National Palace, although she did not mention the historical commanders Dora Maria Tellez Y Hugh Torres, victims of his dictatorship.
“44 years after that heroic, historic deed (…) of the Sandinista Front, we salute the fellow Sandinista militants who participated as members of the glorious Rigoberto López Pérez command in the operation: death to Somocism, Carlos Fonseca Amador,” he mentioned.
Among the characters that Murillo highlighted and that few have heard of their participation in the assault on the National Palace, are Francisco Emilio Mena “Chacalote”, Edis Leonardo Olivares from Masaya, Donald Román Pantoja Herrera in León, José Hermógenes Hernández, Porfirio Jalinas Sánchez in Monimbó, Miguel Rutilio Miranda in Managua, Juan Lorenzo Cisnes Nicanor and Enrique Ramírez López both from Managua.
Today, August 22, is a day of national pride. We are inspired by that heroism, that audacity, that daring. The challenge to the brutal genocidal Somocista dictatorship, with an action that did not immortalize everyone as a brave people,” stressed the regime’s spokeswoman.
Daniel Ortega’s wife concluded that “in the midst of all the aggressions and difficulties of this time we advance as God commands, seeking the rights of all and celebrating ourselves for what God gives us.”
Before this date, the Renovating Democratic Union (let’s unite) recalled that “Currently, Dora María Téllez is detained in El Chipote as a political prisoner of the Daniel Ortega regime, isolated and suffering torture. Hugo Torres died in prison and vilified for his libertarian spirit under the prison regime, also as a political prisoner».
