Ortega will insist this Friday on putting one of his operators in the SICA Secretariat and hides candidates

The Ortega-Murillo dictatorship will try again, this Friday, December 5, to place one of its political operators in the General Secretariat of the Central American Integration System (SG-SICA), after five failed attempts.

The activist defending the rights of migrants and president of the Nicaraguans in the World organization, Haydée Castillo, denounced through her personal X account that the Managua regime is going to try, again, to take over the SG-SICA through one of his political operators, for which he would have already presented the sixth consecutive shortlist, after having failed with 12 previous candidates.

«The Ortega-Murillo dictatorship will try again tomorrow, December 5, to take over the SG of the SICA with new candidates and an attitude of regret in the face of the communication in a threatening tone to foreign ministers. “We urge the Council of Foreign Ministers to honor the Tegucigalpa Protocol,” Castillo denounces.

This time, the regime would be taking care that the names of the new candidates are not leaked to the independent media to avoid complaints from opposition organizations.

Negotiation could be underway

A former Nicaraguan diplomat who spoke with Article 66 On condition of anonymity, he said that the concealment of the names of the candidates and the immediacy of the meeting and the presentation of the shortlist of proposals by the dictatorship reveals a “suspicious” maneuver and something could be afoot in regional diplomacy.

«We must be attentive but there must be strong pressure from El Salvador, Honduras and Belize to explore an arrangement. Surely they will try to negotiate something,” the former diplomat said.

The General Secretariat of SICA has been vacant since November 2023, when the tyrants surprisingly announced the supposed “resignation” of Warner Vargas, who had held that position a year before, at the proposal of the dictatorship itself.

Since then, the diplomacy of the Managua regime has failed in its attempts to achieve the election of a new person in charge of the General Secretariat of the regional organization.

12 candidates rejected for being corrupt and criminals against humanity

After the departure of Vargas from SICA, the Ortega-Murillos have presented four proposals in which they have nominated nine of their most loyal political operators for the position but all have been rejected for being directly involved in the chain of government corruption, repression , being sanctioned by the international community and some being accused of being “criminals against humanity.”

The shortlist presented in the same month of November, almost immediately after announcing Vargas’s supposed resignation, was made up of the current chancellor of the Valdrack dictatorship Ludwing Jaentschke Whitaker, Violeta Irías Nelson, from the Office of the Attorney General for the Defense of Human Rights, and Sandinista deputy Iris Marina Montenegro Blandón.

The main suspect was Jaentschke Whitaker, a political operator placed in Sandinista diplomacy from where, according to complaints from human rights and opposition organizations, he has facilitated repressive actions against exiled Nicaraguans, mainly in Costa Rica.

As these were all the first nominations, the regime tried to convince the Council of Ministers of the organization with a proposal from women, trying to disguise the matter with the principles of gender equality and to do so, it proposed three women, two of them, designated as criminals against humanity and another sanctioned by the US for being part of the FSLN corruption network.

The female shortlist was made up of Sonia Castro González, former Minister of Health, currently presidential advisor for “Health Affairs”, sanctioned by the United States Government and designated by the UN as a criminal against humanity.

In addition, there was María Amelia Coronel Kinloch, called among civil society organizations the “minister of confiscations”, for being in charge of outlawing Non-Profit Organizations and ordering the confiscation of all their assets. It is also sanctioned by the international community and accused of crimes against humanity.

The third proposal in that nomination was the Ortega representative Arling Patricia Alonso Gómez, included in the Engels List, of figures involved in corruption.

The following failed list of candidates from the dictatorship to occupy the SG-SICA was headed by the former chancellor and brigadier general of the Army in active retirement, Denis Moncada Colindres, who for some analysts, seemed to be the most “potable” chip of the regime, They also proposed Johana Vanessa Flores, who has served as head of the Ministry of the Family, and representative Alonso Gómez repeated.

All were also rejected by the Council of Foreign Ministers, which provoked a furious reaction from the regime accusing the governments of Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panama and the Dominican Republic of “insubordination” and “illegal blockade of Nicaragua.”
