Dictator Daniel Ortega, through presidential decree 11-2024, ordered this Friday, August 23, to reform executive decree 13-2008 on the creation of the Commission for the Development of the San Juan River. The objective is to remove powers from that entity and, at the same time, order the creation of a state-owned company.
“The dredging functions carried out by the San Juan River Development Commission will be transferred to a state-owned company that will be created for this purpose,” the dictator states in the presidential decree.

In addition, it indicates that the functions of the San Juan River Development Commission will now only be focused on “study, tourism, docks, ecology and promotion of artisanal fishing, and ultimately the total improvement of the area, in order to coordinate the application of environmental and development policies, plans and actions for its protection and conservation.”
