Nicaragua’s dictator, Daniel Ortega, suffered a severe international setback. According to reports on social networks, the main financier and ally of his at the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) Dante Mossi will not continue to lead that institution, as opposition organizations in exile have been demanding.
The former Nicaraguan ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS) Arturo McFields reported through his Twitter account that he received the news that Mossi “will no longer be the president of CABEI.”
The still president of the regional bank is accused of being an accomplice of the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, for providing him with financing that, according to what opponents have pointed out, has served for Ortega to consolidate his totalitarian project and continue with the repressive escalation against the Nicaraguan people. .

According to the repeated complaints of the exiles, the CABEI has approved for the dictator Ortega, approximately 26 percent of all his credit portfolio.
For several weeks now, opposition organizations in exile have maintained an active campaign to demand from the CABEI Assembly of Governors, which is meeting in the Dominican Republic, that Mossi not be re-elected for financing the Ortega regime, which is accused of committing crimes. against humanity.
Mossi, not being re-elected, must leave office in November of this year. He had been elected to a five-year term in 2018
Former ambassador McFields described Mossi’s non-reelection as CABEI presidency as a “hard blow to the dictatorship” “because they are left without a godfather and they are left without the main financier of the dictatorship.”

The dissident diplomat of the dictatorship considers that the Ortega-Murillo regime remains “a total orphan.” In addition, he leaves them more isolated, forced to find ways to make changes in the country. Start doing something, like sending some kind of democracy signal,” McFields said.
However, he analyzed that it is difficult for a dictatorship to show signs of democracy. «It is difficult, but not impossible, because this is a very great pressure, it must be remembered that the only thing that the dictatorship respects is the portfolio. The only thing he idolizes is the dollar and being affected, not having a sponsor at CABEI, this is going to force him to rethink his actions, it is a hard blow, “he stressed.
Likewise, he appreciated that without a doubt, Mossi’s non-reelection is a victory for the Nicaraguan people, “who fight for freedom and democracy. Above all (because) when one thinks about this, one says, less resources for the repressive police in Nicaragua as well.
McFields recalled that it must be recognized that civil society organizations in Honduras, in El Salvador, had also strongly questioned and criticized the CABEI president.

For his part, the opposition leader exiled by the dictatorship, Juan Sebastián Chamorro, assessed that “the non-reelection of Mossi is a recognition by the Board of Governors (the owners), of how bad CABEI is doing. Created for the economic integration of CA, they cannot ignore that the development of the countries goes through freedom and democracy. I hope they correct the course ”, he indicated.
Likewise, the also exiled Félix Maradiaga, recognized Mossi’s non-reelection at CABEI as a great achievement. He recalled that this regional bank has provided the dictatorship, from 2017 to date, approximately 3.5 billion dollars, which represented more than 26% of the credit portfolio in that period.
