The Nicaraguan Never Again Human Rights Collective and the organization of Independent Journalists and Communicators of Nicaragua (PCIN) repudiated the cancellation of the legal status of 25 civil society organizations that operated in the country. The organizations described this action by the National Assembly, controlled by the Daniel Ortega regime, as “arbitrary.”
This Thursday, March 17, the Ortega steamroller completed the outlawing of 25 more civil organizations. The legislative decree was approved with 74 votes in favor, 16 abstentions and one present. The parliamentarians argued that these organizations have not reported their boards of directors and their financial reports according to the fiscal periods and detailed breakdowns as established by law.
In a statement, both organizations agreed that the National Assembly and the Ministry of the Interior (Migob) by outlawing these organizations violate the right of association and political participation in Nicaragua.
