In the most recent report on political prisoners at the hands of the Daniel Ortega regime, which runs from October 1 to November 30, the Mechanism for the Recognition of Political Prisoners counts 235 areas and prisoners of conscience.
Of the total number of opponents locked up in the different prisons of the country, 225 were arrested between April 2018 to date, while 10 political prisoners They were kidnapped prior to the crisis.

According to the updated report, the number of political prisoners reported in September of this year was 219, however the Mechanism included in the total those imprisoned in the last two months, October and November, another 16 opponents.
The Mechanism divides that group into 11 men Y five women recognized as political prisoners, who were captured between October 1 and November 30.
But the list could have been longer, since in that period there were 59 detainees, among these coming from the departments of
Carazo, Chinandega, Managua, Masaya, Matagalpa, Nueva Segovia, Río San Juan, Rivas and the two Autonomous Regions of the Caribbean Coast.
Of the total number of prisoners, they were released 30 citizens, And 29 opponents are still in prison —of those captured between October and November—, the majority captured in the context of municipal voting.

Among the people detained are territorial activists, members of political organizations, opposition people, relatives of April victims, ex-entrenched youth, political prisoners released, student leaders, indigenous youth, state workers and Catholic priests.
On the other hand, it is detailed that of the total of 225 political prisoners in the context of April 2018, 140 are being held in the different centers of the National Penitentiary System, 59 in the Directorate of Judicial Assistance (DAJ), known as “El Nuevo Chipote » in Managua. Additionally, 14 people are in municipal police stations and 12 at home in prison.

In addition to the kidnappings of opponents, the report denounces that the attacks on relatives of political prisoners have been diverse, from the lack of access to information about their relatives after detention for long periods of time to receiving threats and being a victim of arrests.
So far, state repression has not stopped in the country and according to experts this action by the dictator Daniel Ortega may continue for the remainder of 2022.
