Ortega seals cancellation of 93 NGOs by publishing decree in La Gaceta

Ortega mocks the OAS and says that they "wanted" to have his regime "by force"

The regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo sealed the cancellation of the legal personality of 93 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) by publishing Decree AN No. 8805 in the Official Gazette No. 113 of this Tuesday, June 21, adding more of 600 NGOs banned since November 2018.

In this new attack against foundations and associations, the dictatorship ordered the closure of NGOs that worked on issues such as community development, economic empowerment, culture, research, agriculture and youth.

Ortega’s deputies canceled the organizations on June 15, but the legislative decree entered into force on June 21 after its publication in La Gaceta. The person in charge of passing the guillotine to the associations is Deputy Filiberto Rodríguez, a staunch defender of the dictatorial couple.

The onslaught of the Daniel Ortega dictatorship, through the Ministry of the Interior, took its way to the Nicaraguan Writers Center (CNE), founded by the late priest and poet Ernesto Cardenal (1925-2020).

The CNE, created on April 5, 1990, has a publishing house that, with the support of the cooperation of Norwegian writers, managed to publish 81 poetry titles, 39 short stories, 24 novels and three plays, for a total of 147 titles.

According to Ortega, the 93 NGOs have failed to comply with their duties and obligations established in the legislation that regulates them, “hindering the control and surveillance of the General Directorate of Registration and Control of Organizations for Profit of the Ministry of the Interior.”

Once the organizations have been outlawed, the Department of Non-Profit Civil Associations of the Ministry of the Interior must proceed to cancel the respective registration of each of these associations within a period not exceeding 72 hours.
