The Mayor’s Office of the municipality of Rivas was decapitated by the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo. The mayor Wilfredo López and the deputy mayor Esperanza Núñez were forced to resign from their positions in the commune after being involved in investigations for alleged corruption.
López and Núñez presented their resignations before the Municipal Council of the Rivas Mayor’s Office. The letters of both were read in a 30-minute session that took place yesterday, July 11, at the headquarters of the Municipal Palace, Confidencial revealed. Wilfredo López had been mayor of that municipality for 14 years.
“According to municipal sources, the councilors did not name a successor, but they did appoint Ana Birmania Rueda as the new deputy mayor, and councilor Mario Rodríguez as the new secretary, whom they point to as the official who will be “the real power behind the throne””, points out the media Confidential.

On the night of June 24, the Police at the service of the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo raided and detained the then Sandinista mayor of Rivas, Wilfredo López Hernández, sources revealed to Article 66.
Along with the arrest, the police officers —according to sources— seized three vehicles owned by the mayor and his relatives. They also seized more than 30 thousand dollars.
López Hernández was transferred to the Judicial Assistance Directorate (DAJ), known as “El Nuevo Chipote in Managua, investigated for embezzlement. This medium tried to corroborate the information, but it was not confirmed.
Informants from the area revealed that the crisis that the Mayor’s Office of Rivas is going through has been going on since February 2022, when López was the subject of investigation by the Directorate of Economic Investigations of the Police and the Municipal Development Institute (Inifom).
After spending two weeks in “El Chipote” under investigation, on July 7 he was transferred to his home in Rivas and later resigned from his position together with his vice mayor.
