The Minister of Development, Industry and Commerce (Mific), Orlando Solorzano Delgadillo, was removed from his position by means of presidential agreement 30-2022 disclosed in La Gaceta, Official State Gazette on Tuesday, March 1. In his place was named Jose de Jesus Bermudez Carvajalwho held the position of deputy minister of this state portfolio.
In the same edition of La Gaceta, the appointments of Erwin Vicente Ramirez Colindresin the position of deputy minister general of the Mific and Sofana Edith Garcia Solisin the position of deputy minister of this same entity.
Solórzano Delgadillo was one of the few members of the initial government cabinet with which Ortega assumed power in 2007, who was still working in public office. He is pointed out to be a close friend of the economic adviser to Ortega, Bayardo Arce Castañoand who was part of the so-called group of Sandinista businessmen, before assuming ownership of the Mific.
A report from the Nicaragua Investiga web portal published on January 27, 2022 reported that Solórzano Delgadillo asked Daniel Ortega for authorization to resign from the Mific position, due to apparent health problems.
Solórzano Delgadillo maintained a fairly low profile throughout his administration. On April 13, 2020, he starred in a curious public incident, when being interviewed on the morning program of Channel 10 Television about price speculation and the supply of products at the beginning of the health crisis due to the arrival in Nicaragua of the covid 19 pandemic, made it clear that he was unaware what was the value of the basic basket back then.
“How much is the basic basket now? I don’t exactly remember the date. 2000 and something. Will it be 2400? 2,500 or 2,700?” Solórzano Delgadillo answered erratically. The journalist who interviewed him immediately corrected him, telling him that the basic basket was already close to 14,000 cordobas. In addition to ridicule on social networks, this led to a public debate about the disconnection of Ortega officials with the economic reality of Nicaragua. Currently, the basic food basket exceeds 16,000 cordobas.
