Ortega Regime will “annihilate” Fundación 10 and 24 other NGOs

Daniel Ortega’s regime, through its steamroller of deputies in the National Assembly, will cancel 25 non-profit organizations, among which Fundación Diez stands out, a social entity of Channel 10 television; and the association Programa Regional Feminista la Corriente, led by human rights defender María Teresa Blandón.

The initiative to “annihilate” the NGOs was presented on May 2 by Sandinista deputy Filiberto Rodríguez, who on April 29 had already requested the annihilation of another 25, which would add up to 50 outlawed organizations in less than a week.

The parliamentarian alleged that the entities have failed to comply with their obligations under the laws that govern them as non-profit organizations, these being the following:

Law 147, General Law on Non-Profit Legal Entities, Law 977, Law Against Money Laundering, the Financing of Terrorism, and the Financing of the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction; Executive Decree 15 -2018 Regulation of Law 977, Law Against Money Laundering, the Financing of Terrorism, and the Financing of the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction.

The initiative also states that the 25 organizations “have hindered the control and surveillance of the Department of Registration and Control of Non-Profit Civil Associations, which is carried out by the Ministry of the Interior for this purpose, because by not complying with the laws that govern them and regulate have acted against express law, for which the Ministry of the Interior has requested (…) this National Assembly to cancel the legal personality of these entities.”

Fundación Diez awaits the final ruling of the regime

The other organizations that will be outlawed by order of the Ortega regime are the “Grupo Fundemos” Foundation, the Nicaraguan Youth for Democracy Association (Judenic), the Nicaraguan Association for the Development of the Pacific, the Association for the Promotion of Mutual Benefits (Probemos), the Academy of Sciences of Nicaragua (ACN).

Also on the regime’s blacklist are the Organized Poets Foundation in a Social, Intellectual and Artistic Space (FOUNDATION POESIA), the Friends in Action Foundation in Nicaragua, the Association “Center for Youth Training” (CEFOJ), the Nicaraguan Foundation for Program Support Social (FUNIAPS), Biodiversity Association of Nicaragua (BIONIC).

The list goes on, being the Casa de la Mujer Bocana de Paiwas Association, the Tierra Non-Profit Association, the Ometepe Youth Movement Association (AMOJO), the Waslala Association for the Promotion of Women (APROMUWA), the Workers Association for the Education, Health and Social Integration (TESIS), Nicaraguan Association of General Surgery (ANCG). Foundation for the Promotion and Sustainable Development in the Isthmus of Rivas (ITSMO).

Central American Women’s Fund Foundation (FCAM), Condega Peasant Association “Knowing and Producing” (ACCP). Twinning Foundation of New Guinea “Light in the Jungle”, Yarrince Foundation (FUNDAYA), Apapachoa Foundation and the Association of the Center for Environmental Policy Initiatives (CIPA).

The initiative indicates that for the purpose of canceling legal entities, the Department of Non-Profit Civil Associations of the Ministry of the Interior must proceed to cancel the respective registration of each of these associations within a period not exceeding 72 hours. .

Once this step is completed, it adds that “the goods and shares that belong to the associations, will have, after liquidation, the destination foreseen in the Constitutive act or in its Statute. If nothing has been arranged in this regard, these will become the property of the State in accordance with the Law of the matter.

From 2018 to date, the Ortega dictatorship has outlawed around 150 Nicaraguan NGOs, eight months after a popular revolt broke out over controversial social security reforms described as an attempted coup by Ortega.

Universities, associations that support children, among others, have been the NGOs that have been annulled by the dictatorship, using the excuse that they have breached Nicaraguan law.
