Ortega regime seizes the facilities of Tuktan Sirpi and La Cuculmeca

The administration of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo ordered the National Police to occupy the offices of the “Tuktan Sirpi” Children’s Association of Working Boys and Girls, and the “La Cuculmeca” Education and Communication Association, in Jinotega, which since 17 June, remain watched by the subordinates of the dictatorship, revealed Confidential.

The National Assembly, controlled by Ortega, canceled the legal status of both associations on June 2, along with 94 other organizations.

The progressive dismantling that Ortega has carried out against the NGOs, on this occasion, implied the definitive closure of radio Estéreo Libre that operated under the frequency 95.3 FM, which was born in 1991 at the initiative of a group of communicators, but since 2005 it worked under a alliance with the NGO Tuktan Sirpi, to “strengthen the station as an important tool in the promotion and defense of the rights of children, adolescents, youth, the fight against violence and respect for the environment,” reads the station’s website.

A source close to Tuktan Sirpi, told Confidencial under anonymity, that police officers arrived on Friday morning at the agency’s facilities, where the radio was also operating. Inside were about four people who managed to get out with their belongings and without inconvenience. From that same day, the closure of the station was directed.

While in the case of “La Cuculmeca”, a source linked to the association, assured that those responsible for the NGO since Friday handed over the offices to the Ortega administration.

In a video held by Confidential, Recorded on June 17, a patrol and two riot police officers are seen guarding the entrance to “La Cuculmeca.” This Monday, sources confirmed that police officers remained outside the headquarters of both NGOs, to which no one has access.

They regret the closure of both associations

For the management of Tuktan Sirpi, the dispossession of their facilities was a difficult moment. The board described it as “one of those days, so sad and so painful in my life, in the lives of my colleagues and especially in the lives of thousands of children and adolescents and their families, who were part of the history of Tuktan Sirpi and within it, also that of Radio Estéreo Libre».

“Today (June 17) we officially deliver to the authorities the resources of these two organizations that have worked hand in hand for more than 28 years, to make Jinotega and the environment of the most vulnerable groups a better place, where they are recognize and respect their rights,” the agency said in a publication on social networks.

“It hurts… it hurts a lot and it hurts in the soul, (…) it hurts to leave without saying goodbye, it hurts to leave everything behind,” lamented Tuktan Sirpi, after the cancellation of his legal personality and the dispossession of his offices.

For its part, La Cuculmeca, founded on June 23, 1998, said that “today we have to close our doors, with the hope that our Cuculmeca roots will continue to grow in ideas, values, commitment, vision and above all we are sure that they will remain in the hearts of those who have accompanied us to this day.

Statement from La Cuculmeca

In a statement dated June 9, the association highlighted that for 32 years they have supported the families and communities of Jinotega “in the promotion of quality education, in the sustainable management of natural resources and territorial development with strengthening their livelihoods; During this time we walked taking safe and strong steps towards our reason for being and institutional objectives».

The Ortega steamroller outlawed the associations Tuktan Sirpi, La Cuculmeca and 94 other NGOs, because they have supposedly “transgressed and failed to comply with their obligations” before the law, for which they “hinder the control and surveillance” of the General Directorate of Registration and Control of Non-Profit Organizations.
