Ortega regime exceeds three thousand NGOs canceled since 2018

The Ortega regime continues the cancellation of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), this time it resolved to cancel the legal personality of 100 national and international associations. With this new list, the Nicaraguan presidential couple exceeds three thousand “headless” NGOs since 2018.

According to the ministerial agreement published in La Gaceta on Wednesday, November 16, the Ministry of the Interior (Migob) agreed to “approve the cancellation of the legal personality of non-profit organizations” among which are associations for economic, social , intellectual, feminists and evangelicals.

The Migob points out that they have “failed to comply with their obligations under the law; since they did not report for more than 4 to 26 years boards of directors of the country of origin, update of the power of the legal representative and financial statements according to fiscal periods, with detailed breakdowns of income and expenses ».

The entities are also accused of violating Law 1040, Law for the Regulation of Foreign Agents; and Law 977, Law Against Money Laundering, Financing of Terrorism and Financing of the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction.

This time there are 91 canceled nationals and nine international ones, including the American Institute for Researchers in Behavioral Sciences from the United States, the Association of Domestic Workers of Costa Rica, the Foundation for the Development of Native Nursing and the Association for Aid to the Third World, both originally from Spain.

The Nunca Más Nicaragua Human Rights Collective has denounced that “the purpose of these cancellations is to exercise absolute control and silence society; persecute those who have a different opinion and establish a single thought, violating the human rights of the Nicaraguan people.”

They reject “the systematic repression that the regime promotes against civil society organizations whose rights to freedom of association, political participation, legal and due process are violated, as well as the contribution to the development of Nicaragua.” This new attack against NGOs leaves the people and communities where the organizations operated with their programs and projects unprotected.
