Daniel Ortega’s regime has prevented at least 11 Cuban opponents and persecuted from entering Nicaragua without any legal justification, despite the fact that the government made tourist visas more flexible for citizens of the island.
An investigation carried out by the independent multimedia platform the touch points out that the pattern that is observed is that “the Cubans whom the Government of Daniel Ortega despises have carried out in Cuba some type of activism, public denunciation and citizen protest.”

“They are those who have faced government management and policies; and who, therefore, according to the logic that governs the Cuban Government, deserve punishment and violation of their rights regardless of the territorial limits of the nation to which they belong,” the report added.
Among the opponents of the Cuban regime, to whom Ortega denies entry to Nicaragua is the well-known Afro LGBTIQ + activist Raul Soublett, who was traveling with Dayami Valdesmother of her partner, the independent journalist Héctor Luis Valdés Cocho, also a target of Díaz-Canel.
According to elToque, on September 22, both people were stranded at the Tocumen International Airport, in Panama, after an agent “instructed them that they could not board the Copa flight that would take them to Nicaragua —their final destination—, despite to have the documents in order”, for which they were forced to remain in the canal country for seven days.
Faced with this situation, Soublett posted on his Facebook account that “the Nicaraguan government denied us entry into the country. We are in a place waiting to be deported to Cuba. In addition, she warned that if we return, our lives are in danger. We need help. The immigration authorities withheld our passports.”

Other Cubans to whom Ortega denies entry
