Ortega police free the nephew of political prisoner Dora María Téllez

The Police at the service of the dictatorship released on Monday Oscar Tellez Balladares, nephew of the former Sandinista guerrilla and political prisoner Dora Maria Tellezwho was arrested yesterday, November 20, when he went to visit the opponent at the Evaristo Vásquez Police Complex known as “El Nuevo Chipote”, in Managua, a source revealed to the newspaper La Prensa.

The nephew of the political prisoner He was arrested for complaining to the prison authorities for the abuse and humiliation to which they subjected men and women who attended the family visit this weekend.

According to complaints from relatives of political prisoners, the police forced them to take off their clothes and even do squats in their underwear. The journalist and political prisoner Miguel Mendoza even asked his wife, Margin Pozo, for “pardon” for the demeaning situation she was subjected to in order to see him.

“It was demeaning and humiliating. They practically abused us and us. My face drops with embarrassment. I’m still in shock,” Pozo told Article 66. The young woman had to take time off answering calls to overcome the overreach exercised by the El Chipote authorities against the relatives of political prisoners, which she described as sexual abuse.

It was known that the older women were left in their underwear and the young people were put to do squats. Faced with this situation, Óscar Téllez Balladares complained to the police officers and they left him in custody.

Dora María Téllez’s nephew came to see her after almost three months of not allowing any prisoner of conscience to visit his family.

The regime authorized the family visit this Saturday, November 19, and Sunday, November 20, after forcing them to 84 days of absolute solitary confinement. The political prisoners imprisoned in that place have been seen by their relatives eleven times in more than a year. The dictatorship still does not allow communication between several imprisoned fathers and mothers with their minor children.

According to latest report of the Mechanism for the Recognition of Political Prisoners, until September 30, 2022, the Ortega dictatorship keeps 219 opponents imprisoned in Nicaragua.
