The government of President Daniel Ortega ordered the closure of the Nicaraguan Red Cross, now this humanitarian organization, which was created in 1931, will be in the hands of the Estafó.
This after a bill presented this Wednesday that repeals the founding decree of the organization and in turn orders the confiscation of all the association’s assets and “transfer” them to the Ministry of Health (Minsa).
In the document, the Ortega regime alleges that the Red Cross has not complied with the presentation of financial statements, accounting balance, tax declaration, lack of verification of its donors and providers of funds, outdated information in the registry of the Ministry of the Interior ”, thus breaching “their duties and obligations established in Law No. 1115, General Law for the Regulation and Control of Non-Profit Organizations (OSFL)”.
They also allege that the humanitarian organization, during the massive protests of 2018, “acted against its principles and its Constitutive Act and Statutes; and the Association itself transgressed the laws of the country by disregarding and even supporting this act of its affiliates”.
