Ortega orders the banning of the Historical Institute of Central America, the FDN Movement and 23 more NGOs

The dictatorship of Daniel Ortega, through the National Assembly, is preparing the cancellation of another 25 non-governmental organizations, among which the Civil Association of the Central American Historical Institute and the Nicaraguan Democratic Force or Nicaraguan Resistance Movement Association stand out.

Sandinista deputy Filiberto Rodríguez presented the cancellation initiative before the National Assembly, alleging that these organizations did not report their financial reports according to the fiscal periods and detailed breakdowns as established by law.

The initiative, dated April 29, indicates that the 25 organizations, as well as the more than 150 canceled NGOs, “have hindered the control and surveillance of the Department of Registration and Control of Non-Profit Civil Associations, which for this purpose is carried out by the Ministry of the Interior, due to the fact that by not complying with the laws that govern and regulate them, they have acted against express law, for which the Ministry of the Interior has requested (…) this National Assembly to cancel the legal personality of these entities”.

“Due to the aforementioned (…) the cancellation of the legal personality of the different entities related to this Legislative Decree Initiative is requested, for which reason the Plenary is requested to approve the cancellation of the respective
legal personalities”, details the document sent by deputy Rodríguez, who chairs the Peace, Defense, Governance and Human Rights Commission.

The Central American Historical Institute (IHCA), one of the 25 organizations to be outlawed by the Ortega steamroller, is an entity created by the Jesuits more than 30 years ago, in order to “contribute to the transformation of Nicaraguan and Central American society,” through through the programs of the IHCA Global Project. Currently, the headquarters of the history body remains within the Central American University (UCA).

Among other organizations that are about to cancel and that represent a severe blow to the population is the Chinandega Women’s Movementan association that since 1996 has defended the rights of women and provided support to victims of violence at the departmental and national levels.

In addition, the regime will cancel the personality of the Association of Dental Surgeons of León (ACDL), the Forum Association for Education and Human Development of the Initiative for Nicaragua (Forum for Education and Human Development FEDH-IPN), the Association for Democracy Enrique Bermúdez Varela ( APDEBV), Association of Human Rights Commissions for Peace (ACPDH) and Association of the Nicaraguan Democratic Force Movement (FDN), Nicaraguan Resistance (RN) and the Nicaraguan Association of Breeders and Owners of Peruvian Paso Horses.

Likewise, the Foundation for Inclusive Community Development, the Nicaraguan Foundation for Sustainable Development, the EO Nicaragua Foundation, the Foundation for the development of the city of León, the Association for the livestock development of Achuapa, the Nakawe Foundation, the Insertion Foundation for former prisoners, the Angelo Association Guiseppe Roncalli, Association for Comprehensive Community Development, Solar Project Foundation for Nicaraguan Women and Civil Association of Lions Clubs of District D-5 of Nicaragua.

Added to the list are the Association of Promoters Without Borders, the Nicaraguan Science and Development Association, the Eco Family Foundation, the Quilalí Integral Development Foundation, the Women’s Assistance Center Association, the Nicaraguan Integral Development Center Association, and the Nicaraguan Association of Breeders and Owners of Peruvian Paso Horses.

The initiative indicates that for the purpose of canceling legal entities, the Department of Non-Profit Civil Associations of the Ministry of the Interior must proceed to cancel the respective registration of each of these associations within a period not exceeding 72 hours. .

Once this step is completed, it adds that “the goods and shares that belong to the associations, will have, after liquidation, the destination foreseen in the Constitutive act or in its Statute. If nothing has been arranged in this regard, these will become the property of the State in accordance with the Law of the matter.

In Nicaragua, with the vote of the Sandinista deputies and their allies, around 150 Nicaraguan NGOs have been outlawed since December 2018, eight months after a popular revolt broke out over controversial social security reforms described as a coup attempt of State by Ortega.

Among the organizations that have been affected are NGOs that defend human rights, medical, feminist, educational, universities, environmentalists, indigenous, journalists, and think tanks, among others.
