The building where the Confidencial editorial office and the television company of journalist Carlos Fernando Chamorro operated, in the Planes de Altamira neighborhood, in Managua, and where the dictatorship set up an alleged maternal clinic of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) in 2021, is in complete abandonment.
As Chamorro reported through his account on the social network of the walls peeling off, while the printing on the sign with the name of the supposed clinic and the photo of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo looks pale, due to the sun and the rain.
«On February 23, 2021, the dictatorship inaugurated a Minsa maternal home in the Confidencial Editorial Office, to launder the crime of confiscation of the media outlet. This is what the supposed clinic in Confidencial, occupied by the Police in 2018, looks like now, in total abandonment,” Chamorro wrote on his X account.
In the “Camila López” District One Maternity Home, you can also see how the forest has grown and the health personnel have disappeared, despite the fact that former health minister Carolina Dávila said that there she would care for 5,000 pregnant women and delivery.
“In this maternal home, which we are inaugurating today by the blessing of God and by the political will of Commander Daniel (Ortega) and Comrade Rosario (Murillo), we are going to serve more than five thousand women,” said former Minister Dávila during the inauguration.
Regime tried to justify the theft
The theft of the Confidencial facilities began in December 2020 when, like other media outlets, such as 100% Noticias, and the organizations Popol Na, Health Information and Advisory Services Center (Cisas) and the Nicaraguan Center for Rights Humano (Cenidh), woke up with signs indicating that the property “belongs to the MINSA (Ministry of Health).”
Two months after the installation of these signs, the authorities of the Sandinista regime began to carry out their inauguration installations. On the Confidencial property it occurred on February 23, 2021 and in the photographs released by official media, the use of all the furniture that was stolen from that media outlet for the alleged assembly of the mother’s house was even evident.
The director of Confidencial, prior to the inauguration of the supposed mother’s house, in which the dictators ordered their photographs to be placed on its outskirts, pointed out that said work was “a crude attempt to “whitewash” a State crime against the freedoms of press, expression, and association, with the complicity of the Ministry of Health.
In addition, he denounced that the dictator Daniel Ortega closed a media outlet that at that time was celebrating 25 years “of doing independent journalism, but he has never been able to confiscate journalism, nor silence Confidencial.”
The investigation “The tip of the iceberg of the new Ortega-Murillo piñata”, prepared by the Pro Transparency and Anti-Corruption Observatory (OPTA) of Hagamos Democracia, revealed that the de facto criminalization and confiscation imposed by the Sandinista regime against seven independent media outlets , among these Confidential, amounts to 22,197,011 dollars, without including the value of the confiscated equipment, which amounts to 4,423,653 dollars.
