The dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo has intensified the persecution against the Nicaraguan Catholic Church in recent weeks, to the point that it has prohibited the processions of the patron saints in various municipalities of the country, such as in the case of Mateare, in Managua, where A target and procession was scheduled in honor of the Virgen de la Merced, which would run through the streets of the town this Saturday, September 24.

The same parish reported on its Facebook account that the police authorities informed them that the image could not take to the streets of the municipality of Mateare. Given the lack of authorization for the Virgin to make her journey, they decided to carry out all activities inside the temple.

“We have been informed by the National Police that we do not have authorization to go out tomorrow (Saturday, September 24) in a procession through the streets of our municipality, nor will the target be carried out, for which we inform you that all the activity tomorrow will be done in the parish temple, “emphasizes the Nuestra Señora de la Merced de Mateare Parish in the publication on the social network.

The church authorities called the devotees of the Virgin of Mercy who usually distribute food in the activities in honor of the image as a promise, that they can approach the temple to deliver to the parishioners who participate in the activities during this afternoon in Mateare.

Through the Police, he ordered the denial of permits for the performance of any religious activity outside the temples in the departments of Managua, Masaya and Matagalpa. Processions of the Pilgrim Virgin of Fatima, Virgin of La Merced, San Miguel Arcángel and San Jerónimo, respectively, could not be held in these cities.

Recently, the Ortega dictatorship prohibited the evangelical church from celebrating Bible Day throughout the national territory, under the argument of “safety for the participants.” The prohibition of these Christian activities occurs in a context of religious persecution in Nicaragua.
