Ortega Justifies Russian Invasion in Ukraine and Admits Impact on Nicaragua

The Russian invasion in Ukraine has an impact on Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega admitted this May 4 in Managua, after affirming that the State allocated four million dollars in a week to “subsidize” the increases in fuel prices, caused by the rise in the international price of oil after the international sanctions against the government of Vladimir Putin.

“They provoke us a great damage to all the economies of the countries of the world, that we have nothing to do with that confrontation, why? because if the rise in fuel prices is caused, due to the sanctions imposed by the United States on Russia, which is a large producer and distributor of oil, that affects all of us, all of us,” lamented Ortega, whose regime supports the invasion. of Putin against Ukraine.

In this week, when a strong increase in international oil prices was expected, according to Ortega, the fuel subsidy meant that the State placed four million dollars, which, he remarked, represents “an enormous burden.”

He assured that the subsidy funds, which come out of the State coffers, are obtained “by administering the programs”, but he did not detail which are those programs that are affected.

On April 29, andhe Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) and the Nicaraguan Institute of Energy (INE) reported, for the fourth consecutive week, that keep fuel prices frozenbut they also did not indicate the strategy to cushion the increase.

The prices, the same as more than 30 days ago, remain at 185.35 córdobas per gallon of superior gasoline and that of regular at 180.96 córdobas, while that of diesel at 163.54 córdobas.

Regime: NATO uses Ukraine

In his speech of more than an hour, Ortega He also again justified the Russian invasion of Ukraine, arguing that Russia “defends its sovereignty” and that in the Ukrainian territory, although there is a “noble” people, there is “a ‘Nazifascist’ population, fed by Europe, NATO, to use to Ukraine to weaken the Russian Federation.”

In these more than 60 days of Russian invasion in Ukraine, the Ortega regime has shown its support for the Putin government. During the 88th anniversary of the assassination of General Augusto C. Sandino, justified the attack and he received Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borísov in Nicaragua, who promised – without giving details – an increase in military and commercial cooperation. Then, in early March, he refrained from condemning the Russian government’s actions at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, in which 141 of the 193 member states approved a resolution that deplores the aggression and demands from the Russian Government the immediate and unconditional termination and withdrawal of its troops.

President Vladimir Putin announced the “special military operation” against Ukraine on February 24, deploying more than 190,000 soldiers to invade Ukrainian territory, according to international news agencies.

In Ortega’s opinion, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is already “an undeclared world war”, arguing that European countries, the United States and NATO openly support the Ukrainian government by sending instructors, weapons and billions of dollars, in order to of “striking a blow that strategically weakens Russia and threatens the People’s Republic of China.”

“The only solution to this war, which is already a world war, is dialogue for peace, negotiation for peace. To bet that by military means they are going to be able to weaken Russia, that with these aggressions or economic sanctions they are going to succeed in sinking Russia, it is obvious that they cannot,” he pointed out.

Attack again against Colombia

Ortega too repeated part of his virulent speech against Colombiaassuring that a “narco-State” is installed in that country, which has “the largest drug producer in the world” and that this is the “best business that the Colombian State has.”

In addition, he accused the Colombian State of having “fought the territory of the sea, which granted by the International Court of Justicebecause they want it free from the presence of Nicaraguans, they do not want Nicaragua to protect them, they want to have a free route to be able to transfer the drug to the United States and Europe, they want a free route”.

Ortega, accused by national and international organizations of serious human rights violations against Nicaraguans, criticized human rights defenders. HH., To the United States and European countries for not launching a campaign against the crimes, which in his opinion, occur in Colombia. In addition, he pointed out that the NATO powers “support” and are “accomplices” for not ruling on “the crimes committed by the Colombian State against the countries, the people, that destabilize the region.”

The speeches of the leaders of Colombia and Nicaragua have raised tone as a result of the fact that the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the main judicial body of the United Nations, considered valid on April 21 Nicaragua’s complaints about the violation by Colombia of its “sovereignty and jurisdiction” with its fishing permit for Colombian vessels and its “interference” with Nicaraguan marine scientific research tasks in Nicaraguan waters.
