Ortega dictatorship outlaws 25 more NGOs

The National Assembly, controlled by the regime of Daniel Ortega, with 75 votes in favor, 15 abstentions and one present, canceled this Wednesday, May 18, the legal personality of 25 non-profit organizations. The number of NGOs banned by the Sandinista steamroller since the beginning of the sociopolitical crisis in the country amounts to 234.

Among the entities annulled by the Ortega-Murillo government are the Fundación Meeting Points for the Transformation of Daily Life, an organization whose objective was to contribute to the development of Nicaragua, promoting and ensuring the autonomy, participation, equality and decision-making power of women and young people, in all areas of life. In addition, this NGO produced the television program Sixth Sense, who was awarded several international recognitions for his promotion of human rights.

Likewise, three organizations that work in the defense of women’s rights Nicaraguans such as the Civil Foundation for the Support of Women Victims of Violence, the Women’s Foundation for Development and Democracy of Nicaragua (Fumdenic) and the Alternative Center Association for Women Survivors of Violence Izel (CAMSV).

The proposal sent by the Sandinista deputy Filiberto Rodríguez, who chairs the Peace, Defense, Government and Human Rights Commission, highlights that these organizations did not report their financial reports according to the fiscal periods and detailed breakdowns as established by law.

In addition, the regime canceled the legal status of the Pro-Rescue Foundation for Young People in Gangs, the Association for the Accompanied Integral Development of Nicaragua and its Communities, the Full Life Association (Asovip), the Association for the Ministry of Generation without Code, the New Hope and Life Foundation. (FNEV), Lazos de Amor y Esperanza Association (ASLAE), Institute of Studies for Governance and Democracy Association, Nicaraguan Cement and Concrete Institute Association (INCYC), Nicaraguan Civil Foundation for Conservation and Development (Funcod).

Added to the list are the Guidance Center Foundation for the Exportation of Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (Coemipyme), the Association for Masaya Primero (PMP), the Nueva Guinea Municipal Youth Network Association (RMJ-NG), the Relationship Center Foundation International (CRI), Association of Ladies Lawyers of Nicaragua (ASAN), Association Center for Democratic Participation and Development, Association Center for Studies and Training for Democratic Governance and Sustainable Development.

Finally, the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega canceled the Environmental Housing Development Foundation of Bajo Costa Bambú, Palma y Adobe de Nicaragua (Funbambu Nicaragua), the Human Interconnection Foundation, Ubuntu (Ubuntu Foundation), the Peasant Forestry Development Association (Adeprofoca), the Association American Agrochemicals of Nicaragua (ANIC) and the Foundation for the Development of Reconstructive Surgery in Nicaragua (Nicaplast Foundation).

In Nicaragua, with the vote of the Sandinista deputies and their allies, at least 234 have been outlawed organizations since December 2018, eight months after a popular revolt broke out over controversial social security reforms described as an attempted coup by Ortega.
