Ortega dictatorship exceeds 3,200 canceled NGOs since 2018

The Ministry of the Interior (Migob) canceled this Wednesday another 23 Non-Profit Organizations (OSFL), as part of the regime’s onslaught against civil society. With this recent annulment, the Ortega regime has annulled the legal status of 3,222 organizations, from the end of December 2018 to date.

Among the organizations annulled this Wednesday is the Nicaraguan Union Foundation for Corporate Social Responsibility (Unirse), which is accused of failing to comply with national legislation for having its board of directors defeated and not reporting its financial statements.

“In default, they did not report financial statements for the 2020-2021 period, board of directors expired as of 04-16-2020,” says the ministerial agreement signed by the Minister of the Interior, María Amelia Coronel and published this February 15 in La Gaceta, Official diary.

Unirse was born as part of the social arm of the Nicaraguan private company and in 2006 received its legal status. On its Facebook page it can still be read that its main objective was promote Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a new way of doing business, where the company manages its operations in an economic, social and environmental sustainable manner.

Other canceled organizations are the Nicaraguan Association of Distributors of Petroleum Products and Derivatives (ANDIPET); the Association of the Nicaraguan Council for Voluntary Forest Certification (CONICEFV); the Community Association of the Municipalities of Masaya (ACOMAS); the Nicaraguan Network for Alternative Community Commerce Foundation (RENICCC); the Cultural Academic Foundation The Americas”; the Barrilete Integral Education Center Association (CEINBA); and the Las Flores del Campo Community Development Association).

in that same line were outlawed the Religious Association of the Sacred Heart of Jesus; the Association of the National Commission of Christian Youth Against Drugs; the Social Association for Mutual Aid San Rafael del Sur; the International Foundation for Distance Education (Fundecad); the Solidarity Foundation for World Development; the Villas en Apoyo Community Association; and the Aposento Alto Ministry of Spiritual Restoration Association.

The legal status of the Ministry of God the Cheerful Giver Association was also cancelled; the Rey de Reyes Christian Mission Association; International Evangelistic Ministry Association Christ is the Answer”; the Abundant Life Christian Church Association; the Ministry of the Last Resurrection Association; the Restoration Home Association number One, Two and Three (Christian Movement against Drugs and Alcoholism); the Association the Faithful Remnant; and the Association of People with Physical Motor Disabilities.

voluntary dissolution

The Interior also published this Wednesday a series of ministerial agreements in which it accepts the voluntary dissolution of three NPOs, for which their legal status and registration numbers were cancelled.

Among the dissolved organizations voluntarily are the Social Legal Research and Advice Center Association (CIAJS), the Nicaraguan Mennonite Mission Association and the Marlon Zelaya Cruz Reserve Infantry Battalion Association.

The cancellation voluntary of these organizations was requested by their directors, according to Governorate, for being inactive since their registration.
