The Daniel Ortega regime ordered the confiscation of the assets of the Verbo Christian Mission Association, one of the most important evangelical organizations in the country with a network of 27 churches and other humanitarian projects, including an orphanage.
The NGO is part of a list of more than 20 social organizations whose legal status was canceled this Friday, May 19, according to a resolution of the Ministry of the Interior published in La Gaceta No. 88. Most of the closed organizations They are religious.
“The Ortega regime cancels the legal status of the Asociación Misión Cristiana Verbo in Nicaragua. This had a large number of social projects that included children’s soup kitchens, rehabilitation for people with alcoholism, among others,” denounced the Movimiento Costeño Autoconvocado on its Facebook page.

According to the opposition group, the Association has operated, in Bluefields for more than 20 years, a children’s soup kitchen located in the Loma Fresca neighborhood where they served more than 300 boys and girls, most of them children of working women.

According to the dictatorship, the Association kept the “Casa Bernabé” orphanage in operation “regardless of what was resolved by the Ministry of the Family, which was closed in 2020, for not meeting the conditions for the care and protection of boys and girls and adolescents”.
In addition, according to Migob, the Christian NGO hindered “through its projects the control and surveillance of the General Directorate of Registration and Control of Non-Profit Organizations of Migob and the Ministry of the Family as the guarantor entity for the protection of children, girls and adolescents in Nicaragua, ignoring the activities that are carried out in this internment house.”
The institution at the service of the dictatorship requested the Attorney General of the Republic (PGR) to carry out the transfer of the movable and immovable property of the Misión Cristiana Verbo Association on behalf of the State of Nicaragua. The NGO has been present in the country since 1985, it was installed during the first Sandinista dictatorship of Daniel Ortega.
