Ortega by calling Nichols “black” insulted the entire Afro-descendant community of Nicaragua, says McFields

Arturo McFields requests asylum in the United States

The former Nicaraguan ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS) Arturo McFields described Daniel Ortega’s comments against Brian Nichols, United States Undersecretary of State for the Office of Western Hemisphere Affairs, as racist and vulgar. The dictator referred to the senior American diplomat as “poor black” and “bulldog dog.”

“As a Nicaraguan of African descent, I feel insulted by the racist and vulgar comments of Daniel Ortega. The dictator should apologize to the entire Afro-descendant community in Nicaragua. He has fallen pretty low (if that’s possible). “Ortega the racist”, “wrote the former diplomat on his social network account Twitter.

Arturo McFields is the son of the Nicaraguan Caribbean poet David McFields, a friend of Rosario Murillo, with whom he founded the Grupo Gradas, of intellectuals, in the 1980s of the last century.

Daniel Ortega said that “other voices in Latin America,” which he did not specify, have also demanded the release of political prisoners in Nicaragua, but “those who have the leading voice is the Yankee empire, which is the one that has committed the greatest crimes in the history of mankind”.

In his virulent speech, he also attacked António Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations Organization (UN) and against the Chilean president, Gabriel Boric; whom he called “puppets” and who want to ingratiate themselves with the United States and the European Union.

Ortega attacks a US official with racism and calls him “poor black”.

«There is a man there who constantly comes out giving statements with a rather brave face, he looks like one of those brave bulldogs. His name is Brian Nichols… They have made him bark. He barks against Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua. That’s what they have put the poor black man in and really, he was well chosen because he has a face like a bulldog,” said Ortega.

Recently, Nichols announced that the Joe Biden administration could apply new sanctions against the Nicaraguan dictatorship for “not respecting the fundamental rights of people, neither of expression, nor of the media, nor freedom of worship. What we want to see is a change in policies, the release of political prisoners, respect for the fundamental rights of people in Nicaragua.

The US official also argued that the Ortega-Murillo dictatorship seeks to exercise absolute control over the Nicaraguan people, who have taken away all their fundamental rights.
